Guest Post & Giveaway: Fit Food for Foodies

Recently, I published a cookbook called Fit Food for Foodies with very tasty recipes that are gluten free, dairy free, and sugar free. The recipes are quick and so wonderful that you will never know that you are eating “healthy food”. I have found that Bob’s Red Mill gluten free products are widely available and are excellent (that is saying a lot because I am picky). I have several Bob’s Red Mill products in my pantry including a variety of the gluten free flours, baking mix, oats, and brown rice farina. By the way, the brown rice farina makes an excellent polenta (sorry the recipe will be in the next book but maybe I will post it on my website healthygoodeats.com for free- please ask). I made crepes with the teff and gluten free baking mix, they were yummy too.

There has been a lot of media attention lately about obesity linked to the Western diet heavily influenced by processed foods. The problem afflicts millions of people that have adopted a Western diet and can lead to serious health problems such as heart disease, adult onset diabetes, and high cholesterol. Many are allergic to foods such as wheat and dairy, knowingly or unknowingly. It is difficult to find processed foods that do not contain some amount of wheat, dairy, or sugar.

Eating healthy, whole foods is healthy and people are becoming more aware of how foods affect energy levels and overall health. Benefits include more energy, weight loss (if you need to), clearer skin and eyes, reduce aches, pains and digestive problems, release yourself from addictive habits, and feel empowered by your choices to take control of your diet and health.

What we eat affects our bodies in many ways. The time is now to eat healthy, wholesome food and live life feeling great. Your health is in your hands and life is a gift, so make the most of it.

  1. I plan on trying to add one more day a week of vegetarian meals and also add more gluten free into me diet.

  2. Same as last year! Just keep being more and more aware of intake and where it came from. Currently have Bob’s almond flour in the cabinet for macaron. :)

  3. My New Year’s Resolution for 2011 is to continue to eat healthy foods including my favorite gluten free Bob’s Red Mill products– I especially love the gluten free oats for making granola.

  4. My New Years resolution is to get better at avoiding my food allergies. I’m great at the GF, but not as much on the soy, sugar & dairy. I want to feel better!! :0)

  5. I am working on getting all synthetic “foods” and synthetic prescription drugs out of my diet. Even vitamins, trying to find “food” vitamins instead of the fake additives. The body does not know how to process these chemicals. Also, limiting wheat and sugar is always the ongoing task. I can always use more easy recipies.

    New Year’s Resolution is health-related. Even though I changed to a vegan semi-gluten-free lifestyle, I want to focus on MORE veggies and fruits and try to share this passion with my husband.

  7. My resolution is to follow the Fit Food for Foodie’s way of eating for 2011 and to follow the detox plan for January and February.

  8. For 2011 I am committed to doing at least a one week cleanse from the “Fresh Start” I read on the website healthygoodeats.com and to continue the year eating an allergy free diet. Thank you Bob’s for your outstanding products!

  9. I am committed to giving up sodas and coffee in the new year (coffee because I cannot drink it without a gallon of flavored creamer). No caffeine in 2011!

  11. I am committed to adding more whole foods to my diet and trying to offer more exciting gf dishes to guests that have gf intolerance when entertaining.

  14. I’m hoping to revolutionize my life – going from almost completely sedentary to something more active. Drink less coffee and more water. Less carb binging, more fruit.

  15. I just found out 2 weeks ago that I am lactose and gluten intolerant. I’m almost 200lbs overweight and in these past two weeks alone through this Major diet change, and taking care of myself, I have already lost almost 20lbs. I feel fantastic! My new year’s resolution is to continue this journey, reach my goal weight, and learn to cook all the right foods for me as easily and enjoyably as everything else I’ve been making my whole life till now.

  16. This year, I plan to shift toward more local food and also to incorporate several vegetarian meals per week. Might try to cut back on the beers, too. Playing that one by ear.

  17. I lost some weight when I had to go gluten free. Now I need to just work on portion control and hopefully loose more.

  18. My goal for the New Year is to really watch my diet so that I continue to lose more weight and (hopefully)get my diabetes meds reduced.

  19. My new years resolution is to leave “chips” alone. Most everything else I eat is whole grain and vegetables, but when stressed those unhealthy and awful cheesy yuck is my crutch.

  20. I have been using Bob’s Red Mill products for about 3 years because I love the quality of the product. Now my 26 year old daughter is having major digestive issues and we believe glutten and maybe lactose intolerene is causing it. I am struggling to cook her my homemade recipes glutten free. I need all the help I can get. Thanks

  21. Great giveaway, I love new books! My resolution is fitness-related: to be able to do 10 chinups (though this was my resolution this year and I didn’t get past 5, oops), bench press my body weight and deadlift twice that!

  22. We plan to double the size of our garden and continue to buy local food and produce. Knowing where our food comes from is key to knowing how it’s grown.

  23. ok – that wasn’t a resolution … but I don’t like to make them b/c then I end up breaking them! I will try to resolve to try to avoid sugar … does that count? LOL

  24. My food related resolution for 2011 is to finally complete the gluten free sweet potato waffle recipe I am working on for my friend, Katy and my sister-in-law, Rebecca who both have celiac disease. :-)

  25. I’ve just found out this year that I’m very sensitive to all dairy. I can tolerate butter and margarine in small amounts. Trying to adjust recipes, find new recipes and learn to cook without dairy is my New Year’s challenge.
