This recipe could be adapted to use brown Basmati rice; adjust cooking time according to brown Basmati rice cooking instructions. If you want to make it vegan, simply swap out the butter with a non-dairy spread such as Earth Balance and use vegetable broth. To make it gluten free, just be sure to use a gluten free soy sauce and check the ingredients on your broth.
